Welcome
Thank you for your purchase of the Ignis 100.
The Ignis 100 was designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts of open-fire outdoor cooking. By using high-quality steel and with proper maintenance, you will enjoy your VistaGrillz barbecue for years to come.
Read this manual thoroughly before using the open-fire barbecue.
Safety
Read the following safety instructions carefully.
- Use the barbecue outdoors only.
- Place the fire bowl on a stable, level surface.
- Maintain a minimum distance of 2 metres from buildings, fences and other combustible materials.
- Never leave the barbecue unattended when a fire is burning.
- Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
- Use heat-resistant gloves and clothing while cooking.
- Use only dry firewood or charcoal.
- Do not use petrol, spirits or other volatile fuels.
- Allow the barbecue to cool completely before moving it.
Components
The Ignis 100 consists of:
- Fire bowl incl. legs
- Fire starter
- Steel grill plate
- Steel plancha plate
- Double pan holder
- Large pan holder
- Work table
First use
Before first use, all steel cooking surfaces must be seasoned. This creates a natural protective layer against rust and creates a non-stick layer.
Components to treat:
- Grill plate
- Grill grate
- Pan holders
Seasoning the steel components
Step 1
Clean all components with warm water and mild dishwashing liquid to remove oil and manufacturing residues.
Dry the components completely.
Step 2
Apply a thin layer of vegetable oil, making sure these are natural oils and suitable for high temperatures.
Suitable oils:
- Linseed oil (raw)
- Grape seed oil
- Sunflower oil
- Peanut oil
Do not use too much oil; a thin, even layer works better than a thick layer.
Step 3
Light a wood fire or charcoal fire in the centre of the barbecue, let the components heat up and carefully rub them in with one of the oils listed above. The oil will begin to smoke; this is normal.
Step 4
Allow the oil to season completely. The steel components will slowly change colour to dark brown or black; this forms the protective layer.
Step 5
Allow the components to cool, then apply another thin layer of oil. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times for the best results.
After several uses, the protective layer will also become increasingly effective.
Use
Temperature zones
By making a fire in the starter, coals and embers are created. By moving these, you can create different zones.
Do not simply throw away the burnt ash; you can use it to cool down an overly hot zone quickly and easily by sliding/sprinkling it over.
Pan holders
Use the pan holders exclusively with heat-resistant pans. Always check that the pan is stable.
Grill plate and plancha plate
Use the grill plate and plancha plate for grilling and frying your food. By adding or removing hot embers and coals, you can control the temperature. This is truly playing with fire.
After every use
After every use:
- Remove food residues with a spatula.
- Wipe the plate clean with kitchen paper.
- Apply a thin layer of oil so that it does not rust; this will season in again during the next use.
- Remove ash and wood residues when the bowl has completely cooled
Do not use:
- Abrasives
- Bleach
- Pressure washer
Maintenance
Fire bowl
Fire bowls are kept outdoors and often exposed to the elements. Without maintenance, they can wear out, rust and function poorly more quickly. With the right care, you extend their lifespan and they will continue to look good.
- Never use water to cool the fire bowl. Always allow it to cool naturally before you begin cleaning.
- Remove ash and wood residues after every use. Use a small shovel and brush for a good result.
- Oil the bowl regularly, even if it is meant to rust, to keep the bowl in top condition
- Use a protective cover if you leave the barbecue outdoors.
Plancha and grill plate
The plancha plate is easy to maintain. After cooking, allow the plate to cool. Never use water to do this, and remove food residues with a spatula or paper.
Regularly apply a little oil. This keeps the plate in optimal condition and prevents rust formation.
Pan holders
After use, remove food residues and regularly apply a little oil. This prevents rust formation and keeps it in optimal condition.
Work table
The work table is intended for working on and not for sitting on. The wood is treated with grape seed oil, which is food-safe and can therefore come into contact with your food.
Rub the wood regularly to keep your work surface in top condition.
Storage
Preferably store the barbecue in a dry place. It is advisable to store the barbecue accessories dry.
When the barbecue is kept outdoors:
- Use a suitable protective cover.
- Ensure that rainwater does not remain on the barbecue for extended periods.
Fuel
Recommended:
- Oak wood
- Beech wood
- Ash wood
- Birch wood
- Restaurant-quality charcoal
Do not use:
- Treated wood
- Varnished wood
- MDF
- Chipboard
- Scrap wood
- Briquettes
Frequently asked questions
Can the components go in the dishwasher?
No, they must not. This damages the material and immediately removes your non-stick layer.
My grill plate/plancha is turning black.
This is normal; the protective layer actually becomes stronger as a result.
Rust is forming.
Light surface rust is normal with untreated steel. Remove it and season the plate again.
Can the grill plate get wet?
Yes, but dry the plate thoroughly afterwards and treat it again with a thin layer of oil.
